Taizé Advent Prayer

Taizé Prayer is a quiet, simple way of prayer designed for people of all Christian traditions.  This meditative candlelit service will include simple chants sung repeatedly, rich silence and prayers of praise and intercession.  It’s the perfect way to uplift your concerns and calm  your soul during the Advent season.

  1. Mary Wojcik says:

I’m putting together an Advent Taize Service this year and was wondering if you would share what you are planning?

  2. Sr. Connie says:

We basically use the Taize songs as published by GIA Publications, with the exception of 2 songs.

    the format:
    Call to Worship
    Opening hymn
    Psalm
    Scripture
    Silence, followed by candle ligthing
    Intercessory Prayer
    Procession of Light
    Silence
    Closing Hymn

  3. Kate Shaner says:

    Hello,
We will also have a Taize service for Advent this year. This is the first time I have planned such a service, and could use some direction. Can you describe your procession of light?
    Blessings,
    Kate

  4. Sr. Connie says:

During the song before the Intercessions, candles (which have been left in each sitting space) are lighted. We have about 6 people going throughout chapel doing this. They are held while sitting through the intercessions.
During the singing of “Take, O Take Me as I Am” the participants come up in any order they wish to place the candle on a long table in front of the altar. (This is as close as it gets to an altar call in the Catholic Church!) Sr. Connie
